BRAND FILM
SONY - TASTE
For the launch of their new Xperia smartphone, Sony asked us to create a narrative short film that would leverage the phone's pro camera and built-in filmmaking tools. As a companion to the short, we also produced a BTS documentary to further promote the phone's capabilities.
"Taste" and the BTS doc were broadcast on NHK and distributed online.
The first thing that struck us was the freedom that such a small form factor could enable. We could downsize the crew and go to more and more adventurous places than our budget would normally allow. This kernel of enthusiasm eventually materialled into a story of a futuristic chef traveling the world in search of new flavors.
To render the near-future world of "Taste", we employed our production design studio The TAKA Collective to create the props and costumes.
Production was a multi-stop international tour, starting in the kitchen's of Seattle's renowned Canlis, moving to the mountain peaks of the Olympics, then across the water to Hawaii and finally, Tokyo.
VFX were required in post to render the machinations of the food printer and our chef's final creation.
"Taste" was a SAG-AFTRA production.
